Powerflex | Rear Subframe Mount Bushings | E24+E28 | Street
The job of the rear subframe mount bushings is to isolate the chassis from the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) of the road and driveline while providing a stable platform for the suspension to operate from. While the OEM rubber bushings do a decent job, they are constrained by cost and NVH goals. As the rubber in the bushings ages it becomes harder and shrinks causing delamination from the metal stiffeners leading to a failed bushing. This aging appears as “clunking” under acceleration and rear end “wiggle”. Fortunately, Powerflex polyurethane subframe mount bushings address the short comings of the OEM rubber bushings through a higher performance material. Polyurethane will not harden or shrink over time and due to the increased stiffness of the material (Street at 70A) you have reduced bushing deflection creating a more firmly planted rear end allowing for better handling all with a minimal increase in NVH.
